MDOT Interstate Improvements – South Portland

In June of 2009 Shaw Brothers Construction was the low bidder on the $5.2 million Interstate Improvement project located in South Portland, Maine. The project entailed widening the heavily traveled Interstate 295 between exits 3 and 4 of both the northbound and southbound roadway. The work of this project included all aspects of interstate highway construction including excavation and grading, drainage, gravel base, hot mix asphalt, cable barrier guardrail, signage, curb and traffic control. Lower Montsweag Brook Dam Removal

Shaw Brothers Construction was tasked with the removal of a 43 year old hydro dam in Wiscasset that was no longer being used to generate power. The removal of the dam would allow fish to migrate further up stream into their original habitat. Rather than using explosives to remove the 3,800 cubic yards of concrete, Shaw Brothers utilized their large 12,000 lb hydraulic hammer mounted on a Cat 345 excavator to systematically demolish the structure all while keeping water flowing downstream. Million Dollar Bridge Demolition

During 1997, Shaw Brothers Construction, Inc. performed as a subcontractor for Cianbro Corporation on the demolition of the historic “Million Dollar Bridge” that spaned the Fore River, connecting Portland and South Portland. The primary scope of work was to demolish all existing concrete structures above water and land, recycle all concrete, including that taken from below the water by Cianbro, and build the new Harbor View Park. Wells Route 1 Emergency Culvert Replacement

On Friday, May 19, 2006 Shaw Brothers Construction received an emergency call for help from the Town of Wells, Maine. Over the previous few days the Southern Maine area had received 15” of rain causing major flooding throughout the area. The flooding caused a stone box culvert carrying Stevens Brook under the heavily traveled route 1 to fail, closing the road to traffic. With Memorial Day weekend only a week away the Town of Wells was under tremendous pressure to get the road open. Read More »
