Safety is at the forefront of everything we do. Shaw Brothers Construction is fully committed to the safety of its employees, its customers, its subcontractors, and the public.

The key to our successful safety program is the participation of all Shaw Brothers' employees. Many of our employees have been trained in First Aid and CPR, Air Monitoring procedures, and OSHA and MSHA standards. Our supervisors hold weekly on-site safety meetings for their crews, and we have 40 employees who have been through OSHA’s 40-hour HAZWOPER training. Many of these safety courses are reinforced each year with refresher training.

Our outstanding safety record has enabled us to join an elite group of contractors as part of a trust that self-insures their Workers Compensation coverage. This is a testament to the effectiveness of our safety program and our confidence in our employees' commitment to working safely. Shaw Brothers past commitment to safety is exhibited in our Experience Modification Rating. Since 1992 our mod rate has averaged below .80 and has been as low as .68.

Shaw Brothers Construction, Inc. Is 100% OSHA-10 Certified

On April 13, 2007, during its annual safety day, Shaw Brothers Construction required all personnel to participate in an OSHA 10-hour certification class emphasizing hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention. Topics included general safety and health provisions; electrical; fall protection; personal protective and lifesaving equipment; materials handling (storage, use, and disposal); hand and power tools; and scaffolds, cranes, excavations, and ladders, etc.

Shaw Brothers requires all new personnel to become OSHA-10 certified. OSHA-10 certification is another example of Shaw Brothers Construction's emphasis on safety. We distinguish ourselves from our competitors by being the first company of our size in Maine to be 100% OSHA-10 certified.

Shaw Brothers Construction also conducts 8-hour annual refresher trainings for all gravel pit and quarry personnel. Not only do these trainings ensure the company is in compliance with Part 46 of the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s (MSHA) Code of Federal Regulations but it is also a key factor behind our excellent safety record.
