HEAVY HIGHWAY

RT 136 Improvements - Freeport
Owner :Maine Department of Transportation
Scope : In January 2009 Shaw Brothers Construction was one of two contractors selected out of a pool of ten to submit a design build proposal for the reconstruction of 3.3 miles of Routes 125 and 136 in the Town of Freeport. The design portion of the project is being performed by The Louis Berger Group, while construction and project administration is being handled by Shaw Brothers Construction. When completed there will have been excavation of 30,000cy of soil, removal of 20,000cy or rock, placement of 55,000cy of gravel, and placement of 18,000 tons of hot bituminous pavement.

Route 1 Improvements - Kittery
Owner : Maine Department of Transportation
Scope : Full reconstruction of a one mile section of Route 1 in Kittery. Work included upgrade of Kittery Water Districts existing infrastructure, drainage, full roadway box cut, grading, and paving. |

Mill at Saco Fall
Owner : Mill at Saco Falls, LP
Scope : Assisting with renovations to existing Saco Falls Mill property. Work includes new utility conections, water, sewer, drainage, electrical connections, site grading, landscaping and paving.

Falmouth Elementary
Owner : Town of Falmouth
Scope : Performing the sitework construction for the new elementary school located on the Falmouth School Campus. Work includes earthwork, paving, storm drainage, sanitary sewer, water line installation, as well as foundation excavation and backfill for the school structure. In addition, the project included the construction of a new athletic stadium with a turf field and state of the art track.

UTILITY WORK

Freeport to Pownal Natural Gas Distribution System
Owner : Maine Natural Gas
Scope : Shaw Brothers Construction was hired as a subcontractor to Enterprise Trenchless Technologies assisting with installation of a new Natural Gas Distribution System running from Elmwood Road in Pownal to Double L Street in Freeport. While various areas of the project required directional drilling for installation of the new 8” high pressure main, Shaw Brothers joined forces with ETTI to assist with over 31,000 lineal feet of open trench excavation to complete the 9 mile system connection. In addition, special attention was paid to traffic control and safety efforts due to various stretches of rural winding roads in the towns of Freeport and Pownal.

DEMOLITION WORK

Gulf of Maine Institute Pier Demolition
Owner : Gulf of Maine Institute
Scope : Shaw Brothers Construction, acting under a subcontract to Cianbro Corporation, removed the existing dilapidated pier at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland to make way for construction of a new pier. The work included removal and disposal of the wooden deck and wooden timber pile.

EMERGENCY WORK

Route 1 - Wells
2006 Highlight Project of the Year
Owner : Town of Wells
Scope : After a large rain fall a stone box culvert under Route 1 in Wells became unstable requiring the road to be closed. Shaw Brothers crews worked 24hrs a day to replace the culvert and open Route 1 in five days for Memorial Day weekend traffic.
